Amani: Legend of the Shadow Warrior

THE CREATION OF An AFRICAN HERO multimedia FRANCHISE AND social initiative

‘Legend… Hero… Africa…’

In the brutal backstreets of Kabiri-Mosi a young man comes to fulfil an ancient Bantu Prophecy and decides the fate of humanity. He learns terrifying secrets hidden for centuries in his family and in his blood. With the help of his two best friends he prepares for a battle that takes him from the murkiest slums and ghettoes to the deepest, darkest corridors of power.

‘A Hero is coming.’

An Overview

Content:  Using a multimedia platform of comic books, an interactive website, gaming, film, and television, we propose to tell the story of a new African superhero named Amani (a word in several Bantu languages meaning Peace or Faith in English); his two friends the effortlessly-brilliant Fatu-Mary and the ever-inventive Pasedu;  Amani’s world of Kabiri-Mosi; and the dramatic need that pushes him onto his journey.

Social Initiative:  Integrated into the characters’ personalities, weaknesses, powers, and motivations will be themes of justice, good versus evil, sacred quests, and surmounting life’s difficulties.

Economic Growth:  A secondary component will be the economic development that occurs to keep the franchise operational.  By way of example, in the second year of shooting the television series The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, 2,335 Batswana were directly employed by the production.

The Goal

The goal of “Amani: Legend of the Shadow Warrior” is to help empower our next generation of young leaders, particularly young men and boys.  The initiative will open up a global dialogue among youth and will celebrate Africa.  It will promote justice as strength and make responsibility cool.

The goal cuts across disciplines and regions.  In Southern Africa, the movement will promote African pride and will support justice, self-sufficiency, and wellbeing among families and communities.  In the West, the movement will promote a deeper understanding of and respect for African ways to enrich families, communities, and lives.  “Amani” will encourage cooperation globally.

Additional benefits will:

  • enhance technological and computer skills;
  • focus on language and literacy;
  • involve issues of community and family;
  • promote health and well-being;
  • honor culture and tradition to promote pride and self-sufficiency.

The Idea

Core Values: A passion for creative imagination, the belief in the power of storytelling to influence, the worthiness of an African perspective and a desire to bring this perspective to the world, an unwavering conviction in taking responsibility for justice and well-being for all people.

Project Concept: To combine the benefits of a viral technological platform (delivery) with the fervent appeal of story (content) to achieve social change.

Methodology: Once designed, a multimedia franchise (product) will be created and delivered through a series of viral technological platforms targeted primarily to young boys (audience) first in Africa and then rolling out globally.
